Unconditional love gets misunderstood as meaning you stay no matter what, accept everything, and keep showing up even when showing up is slowly destroying you too — but loving someone without conditions doesn't mean loving them without limits, and there's a difference between standing by someone through hard times and handing them the tools to keep hurting themselves.
The hardest part is that enabling often looks exactly like love from the inside — you're just trying to keep the peace, soften the blow, protect them from consequences — but sometimes the most loving thing you can do is let someone feel the weight of what they're doing instead of carrying it for them.
You can love someone completely and still refuse to participate in their unraveling — because loving someone unconditionally was never supposed to mean losing yourself in the process. Share your thoughts below — have you ever struggled with the line between supporting someone and enabling them, and how did you find it?
What do you think?
Your words might be exactly what someone needs to hear.
